There are three commonly accepted branches of Knighthood within the Jedi Order. All Jedi Knights are called to serve in one, as befits their interests and abilities. The selection of each path is deeply personal, and very significant to a Jedi.
Jedi Guardian
Knights preferring to take a physically active stance against the dark side of the Force and all other threats to the Republic were known to pursue the branch of Knighthood known as Guardian. Such individuals would advocate for the supremacy of athletics and martial training in many forms of combat. They specialized in the wielding of a lightsaber, pursuing the study of combat with it. Guardians try to master as many Lightsaber forms as possible. The Force abilities they relied upon were more in the support category; skills that would aid them in their athletics, acrobatics, and in combat. They were also skilled in hand-to-hand combat, knowing how to defend themselves even without a weapon.
Variant specializations of the Guardian were the Jedi Ace, a master of dogfighting and space, Lightsaber Instructor, who taught the younger learners their first practices with a weapon, or a Weapons Master, who took up the knowledge of many exotic weapons.
Their traditional color was blue.
Jedi Consular
Jedi Consulars are the opposite of a Guardian; focusing on strengthening the mind and ones connection to the Force rather than strength and skill. Such a Knighthood focus often leads to a devotion to speech, research, healing, and other more passive areas of the Force. Jedi Consulars rarely take up their Lightsaber for little more than self defense, and most are pacifists by nature. Consulars are very likely to be sworn in to the Jedi High Council, as they are wise and responsible, often making good leaders.
Variant specializations of the Consular were the Jedi Ambassador, who traveled to new or hostile regions in hopes of bringing peace and the Republic to the region, the Jedi Diplomat, who's word during a conflict was respected as binding law, or the Jedi Healer, whose skills centered around healing the sick.
Their traditional lightsaber color was green.
Jedi Sentinel
A Jedi Sentinel represents a balance between Consular and Guardian; a balance between mind and body. More than the others, this strain of Knighthood focused on upholding the law, and weeding out deceit and evil wherever it may linger. Most agree that a Sentinel has the most difficult road, for they take upon themselves all the responsibilities, as well as many of the practices as possible, of its two counterparts.
Variant specializations of the Sentinel were the Jedi Investigator, who sought out suspicious activity where-ever it presented itself, the Jedi Shadow, who served as a secret service for the Order, or the Jedi Watchmen, who protected a certain region from danger and was responsible for it.[/blockquote][/blockquote]
