There are four commonly accepted ranks of Jedi, each progressing upwards as the individual ascertains a greater knowledge and understanding of the Force, as well as the recognition of others for their talents. In addition to this, there are two well known titles that go beyond these ranks.
Jedi Initiate
A Jedi Initiate, or 'Youngling', are the Force Sensitive children of the Galaxy brought to the Jedi Temple. This is the most basic rank applied to the youngest that joined the Jedi ranks. Traditionally, most of these children would be from the Inner or Mid Rim territories, where blood testing is required at birth. Those proven to be a Force Sensitive are brought before the Jedi, and removed from their homes and families. At this stage in their learning, its rare for an initiate to have an individual Master; rather, they're taught in groups or 'clans' by a series of knowledgeable Masters, much like how a school would have individual teachers teaching knowledges that they specialize in.
Jedi Padawan
Once an Initiate has reached a certain familiarity and understanding of the Force, they are viable to be selected for individual training by a Knight or Master. Upon becoming ones apprentice, an Initiate becomes a Padawan. Per tradition, Padawans of a hair-growing species would wear a long braid of hair behind their ear; non-haired Padawans were encouraged to wear a type of jewellery, a tattoo, or other body modification. An initiate who routinely did not pass the Initiate Trials, or was not selected to be an Apprentice, were often placed within the Jedi Service Corps, where they would commonly be placed within the Agricultural Corps, the Medical Corps, the Educational Corps or the Exploration Corps. Padawans follow their Master to events external from the Temple, gaining knowledge both from their Master, and from experience. Usually this was done verbally or through observation, as new Padawans were rarely more than a liability in combat, or in another heated situation. Eventually a Padawan learns to hold ones own in such situations, as their knowledge of the Galaxy and the Force continues alongside their Master.
Jedi Knight
After approximately a decade serving alongside their Master, a Padawan who is recognized as talented enough, having learned what they can from their Master, becomes eligible to take the Jedi Trials. Success within the Trials immediately grants the Padawan the title of Jedi Knight from the moment their braid is cut by the High Council. From this point on, they are not bound to a Master, and are eligible to accept missions from the High Council. They are also allowed to pursue specialized training, such as a unique weapon or one of three branches of Knighthood, and are allowed to take up an apprentice of their own.
Jedi Master
A Jedi Knight who successfully trains a Padawan to the rank of Knight is eligible for the rank of Master. Their talents must be recognized by the High Council as well, making the Jedi Master rank one of the most difficult to achieve. These represent the upper echelons of the Jedi, among the strongest and wisest of the entire Order.
High Councilor To serve on the Jedi High Council is a great honor bestowed only on a select few Jedi, the most elite in the Order. They are leaders known for their wisdom and their intelligence, the most skilled Jedi you could ever find. Some are great swordsmen and some are sages, others are both.
Master of the Order
The Master of the Order was the unanimously elected leader of the Jedi High Council. This individual typically remained within the Temple or there-abouts, controlling all meetings and overseeing all missions and reports. They also often served as the an adviser or ambassador to the Supreme Chancellor or other reigning governmental head of the time. This title generally sat with the Grand Master of the Jedi Order, but not always.
Grand Master of the Jedi Order
The Grand Master was the elected head of the entire Jedi Order, responsible for overseeing the entire operations of the entire Order. Their skill and wisdom unmatched by any, and the respect held for them reached out to many more than just the Order. It is not unheard of for a collaboration of talented Masters to make up a coalition of sorts, together acting as the Grand Master.

To better describe the rankings that Jedi may possess when fighting in the Clone Wars, there will be three ranks of which a Jedi can attain. Each will represent a different level of responsibility and control, and dictate if the Jedi is eligible to be in command of troops.
Jedi Specialist
A Specialist was a Jedi who was not in charge of overseeing the greater events of a battle, but rather charged with seeing the plans successfully put into motion. This may include eliminating a high priority target or seeing to the liberation of a captured individual. These Jedi were often between the rank of a Padawan who was allowed to accept missions on his own, and Knights who had recently been Knighted. Specialists were often called upon on the battlefield to consult with those in charge and offer advice, and their opinion was very respected.
Specialists were not able to command ranks of troops during combat (though, their wisdom often lead to their suggestions being carried out regardless). Rather than commanding a sizable squadron of troops, Specialists could be assigned a small group of no more than four Clone troopers, called a Pod. This Pod would serve the Jedi in whatever manner they saw fit. Due to the quick and acrobatic nature of most Jedi movements, it was uncommon for this Pod to follow the Jedi everywhere during the operation. Rather, these Clones would serve to maintain an exit, provide reinforcements where necessary, or gather intelligence. This isn't to say that they couldn't follow the Jedi, should they so choose.
Jedi Commander
A Commander was a Jedi who was in charge of overseeing a portion of the greater events of a battle. They dealt with many issues, including delegating tasks to specialized units as well as deployment. Commanders were often somewhere between Jedi Knights who had served the Jedi Order for a great deal of time, or newly appointed Masters. Their council was rarely disputed during preparations for war, and almost always called upon. These Commanders were very well respected, and unlike Speciliasts, known through-out the Republic Forces.
Commanders were able to initiate commands to ranks of troops towards the beginning of combat. Often, their wisdom and precognition lead them to be the ones planning the initial assault, declaring what troops should begin where, and what objectives all should have. This being said, once the battle truly commences, Commanders often left further orders to the Clone Commandos or other units devoted to the army, leaving the Commander free to oversee more personalized, high priority missions. Like Specialists, Commanders were often assigned Pods. These Pods were often composed of more specialized troopers with greater combat capabilities, and as such, these Pods accompanied their Jedi host more often than they would have with a Specialist.
Jedi General
A General was a Jedi who was in charge of overseeing anything and everything their wisdom allowed them to. They deal with any issue they could, overseeing as much or as little of an operation, as possible. Generals were only ever the most respected of Jedi Masters, and only those upon the Jedi Council. The word of a General was always law, and followed to the letter. Moreover, they were often consulted for nearly any update of what they oversaw. Generals were not only known through-out the ranks of the entire army, but often to the general public, as well as their enemies.
Generals were able to grab the reigns of an operation at any point during a battle, able to deliver commands before or after it actually began. Unlike with Commando's and Specialists who took to more covert and stealth missions, Generals often saw front-line action as much as they did the covert operations. They also spent just as much time behind their own lines, distributing orders from a safe distance. A General was able to command whomever they wished of the Clone army to follow them, and was not limited to a Pod. However, a General could have no more than four specialized Commando units under their direct control.
