Play-By: Zhang, Ziyi |
Mei is a very calm and calculating person, though she may have a job that is often unpleasant and dirty she does it because it is what she does best. She has issues that she tries to hide but they still show as well. Her loyalties are twofold and can conflict if things come up; she is loyal to her family, herself, and to the Republic. Her loyalty to the Republic stems from her desire to protect her family and desire to make her name, but also because it is a better life than living in peace in the warrens under the surface of Corsucant. She prefers to be doing something and often when not doing anything can be found in Pazaak dens playing a game or two, though people who accuse her of cheating end up with a broken nose or jaw. Her seemingly nice personality is just a mask for someone who could be called cocky and hot headed; she had to work to restrain those qualities and even so they still show up more often than she’d like. However anything that could cause a disagreement could cause an issue with her, so people have to be careful with what they say to her.
She has friends and treats them quite well, though she is also prone to snapping at them with the same fiery response. She would rather play pazaak with friends for fun, and with others for money which then she will cheat. Her work for the Republic is done with precision and the best of her ability, even if she can get a bit cocky at times she can keep it in check so that she does not get caught. Her work ethic is quite strong, and she is a very capable actress when it comes to playing roles for her infiltration jobs. While it seems her primary focus is her work she also cares a lot about the state of the Republic, and she does keep up on news both political and war related. The enemies of the Republic she has no mercy on and will do whatever it takes to stall or shut down their operations, usually employing explosives and more insidious means like computer viruses and other unethical means. The way to win the war using sabotage is one of the dirtiest methods ever, and to her people with high morals need not apply. If someone is hesitant to do what it takes then she will leave them behind or make them see it her way.
Not knowing that she is actually force sensitive and just knowing she is that much more talented has left her somewhat at a disadvantage, as many of her greatest flaws are corruptible areas that chould be twisted to the right person’s whims. She is unaware of this fact and also thinks that the Republic will always remain as it is, the path she walks is a very fine line between falling into the abyss and staying on the razor’s edge she walks. For everything she is and represents, there is always the person who was there before her father was killed, this caused her to shun blasters and firearms and only rely on her own body as well as melee weapons and thrown weapons like grenades and such. People who know her know a lot about her real facets, but somehow they try to look past them as she is a reliable operative who does her job and always comes back alive.
Also, if you're applying for any sort of rank, you must include an additional paragraph accounting how they act as a leader.
History:
Mei came from one of the lower levels of Crouscant, her parents owned a small repair shop that did well because of the quality of work her father did. He also taught self defense courses on in the repair bay when it was empty, she learned from his how to fight with her body and how to use blades as well as staves. Her father's side of the family was once renowned for their skill with martial arts, and her grandfather had once been in a mercenary group and ended his career as a martial arts instructor for them before retiring to Coruscant with his family. Since then they have fallen into obscurity, and the knowledge kept within the family. However she was always one to sneak about and fiddle with electronics, in fact even as a child she’d watch him work and read the technical manuals. She had a very analytical mind growing up and loved puzzles; in fact she had a knack for learning quickly and being able to find the problem when he could not find it. Her parents just considered her to be a technical genius, and they never even once considered her talents were actually small tugs of the force at work, She was born a sensitive, however they never realized it and thus it went only noticed as her being adept in these two areas. Life for her was difficult but she pulled through, though she had other goals in mind for her life. Until she was eleven she was quite close to her father, and then a wanted criminal ripped him away from her and her mother.
He’d been closing up shop when the man entered the shop and pulled out a blaster, they were in the small apartment above it and had no idea what was going on. In the failed robbery attempt her father tried to subdue the man but even though he succeeded he was shot, hearing the blaster fire she came down into the shop to see him on the ground on top of the unconscious criminal. Instead of turning him over she set his blaster to backfire and loop into the power pack the moment he tried to fire it again, and then she waited for him to get up a few moments later and run. He got into a fire fight with security forces that responded to the report, and instead of firing at them blew his hand and a part of his forearm off when the gun exploded. They concluded the blaster was faulty and he was taken back into custody, though after that day she never looked at a blaster the same. In fact she had forsaken them, as the memory of losing someone so close to her made her angry. After that she struggled to keep her and her mother going, her mother tending the storefront while she was in the back doing the repairs. Her aim however was to join the army, and use her skills to serve the greater good instead of rot in the warrens of Coruscant.
The next six years were spent keeping the shop going and practicing what she had learned from her father, taking tutelage from Daerith Vaalor who was one of his old childhood friend who had a different style of fighting. This person had been named her godfather, and if anything happened to him they had a longstanding agreement that he would look out for her. Using this she managed to have quite and unique manner of fighting by sixteen, as well as quite a good set of technical skills. She was also still just as sneaky, and she had to at times to avoid people who she’d crossed after slicing into their information. Though they had cheated her father in the past as well as her, and she made sure they were humiliated or that the correct payments had been made for services rendered. However she was caught a week after her birthday, some thugs were trashing the shop looking for some of her father’s old data discs. Seeing this she tried to stop them and was pinned against a wall, however had it not been for her current martial arts teacher she would have been killed. He had watched her progress and realized her potential could be better used in other areas; he was a retired officer with a small mercenary group who put in a good word for her. He took her with him to his contact within the group after she turned seventeen, and they tested her aptitude and skills in many areas.
They discovered she was a bright talent in the areas of infiltration, sabotage, and espionage. Though they suspected it and had her tested due to her unusual skill level, she was too old for jedi training and they told her that she was just naturally skilled and nothing about the truth. She was allowed in on Captain Salorin’s recommendation and the lie she was naturally skilled, and she was trained even at the age of seventeen for special operations and espionage. Though they had already begun working on an assignment at the time, someone like her was considered an asset and she was made a special allowance for field based training. Though she trained on blasters she only trained and instead focused more heavily on martial arts and melee weapons, she also was trained in the arts of deep cover in case the information was not easy to obtain or the exact sabotage was prolonged and meant to slowly cripple. She trained until she was twenty and the first true test came after a series of minor missions, she was twenty-one then and the news of Count Dooku forced them to send her to gather some intelligence when hired by the Republic to do an investigation and sabotage mission. Her mission was to infiltrate and get information about their numbers, and upon exit delay a ship building facility in the outer rim.
This she did and she managed to get in and establish cover as a technician, she was there until she found any kind of evidence as to their real strength, though she did her job and follow her mission she found no real information that was of any worth at the facility. This was one of many locations she could have been sent to, so for eight months she kept her cover until she was called back. In her exit she planted explosives at several key locations of the facilities repair bays, stealing a shuttle after that she escaped and once she was out of the transmitter range they exploded and crippled the faculties repair capabilities, the place was a bust and of no importance in the end. Though at the time they had no idea until she went in, as the location had just been discovered and its strategic value had yet to be assessed.
Once that mission was over and she was debriefed she was now back to doing field work with the unit for the republic, as well as a promotion to Lieutenant as she had been a sergeant at the time of her last mission. Her new role was to acquire whatever data was necessary from the fronts it was on, as well as sabotage and hinder enemy operations using the battles as cover to operate behind. Though she did work with a small group of mercs often so that she was not left vulnerable, as her line of work is very dangerous and while she is not expendable she would rather be where the action is rather than held back. However shortly before the last major battle the unit suffered heavy losses, and only a few people survived. This was the end of the end of that unit, after that she renegotiated with the Rebublic as solo mercenary and kept on helping them with the war effort.

Magical theory was interesting at time but also quite harrowing, even for Samantha it was taking a leap into the unknown. However this one was a sure shot it seemed, human history was rife with pain and suffering at their own hands. Places where this became centralized were often plagued by paranormal activity that was scoffed at by the mundane population. The Mystics of society often knew better, and these places were dangerous as well as more terrifying knowing what lay within their walls. Now facing Black Adam and his forces they presented a theoretical new weapon, waves of the angry dead who had suffered and could only see their suffering. This was her goal going in there tonight, and making the long trip from NYC out to the location for nightfall. She had prepared some charms and wards but was unsure of what was here, though the history was traumatic and twisted as the era this place was tied to.
It was once known as the Overbrook Asylum, a place that had many facilties where the patients could benefit from, but however in the early 1900's and late 1890's known methods of psychiatric care were quite traumatic and often brutal. In 1917 there was a disaster that killed everyone in their beds, the boilers failed and everyone there froze to death. It was in 1920 the land was bought by the Tri-state mental correction board and converted into a mental institute, abruptly closing in 1975 with reportedly over 10,000 deaths while it was open. Even in these years many inhumane treatments were often used and much angst was created, now who knows what memories the place has that still live. Using this information she had extrapolated that this would be a site to neutralize, however this would also mean much more travel and research into other locations.
As she pulled up and parked her bike across the road she placed the alder heptagram pendant around her neck, she carried the old book she'd borrowed from her father's collection. She was in her outfit for this so that nobody would see her face, but the fact she carried bundles of birch twigs in a bag she had on her back was also quite evident something was up. Approaching the old facility there was an unearthly silence as she shuddered, she could feel this place was not right and she had to get in before it got dark so that she had time to establish the location where she would be safe from all harm in for resting. This was not going to be a night, this would be a few nights of hell dealing with this place so that there would be one less location for the worlds enemy to manipulate. However she did have her dad who would bring her more supplies in case she needed them. Nothing electronic was taken in but her call phone, and she had an old fashioned oil lamp for light as well as energy bars and enough bottled water to last for four days. This was just one front of the war, that perhaps her allies within the protectors would understand as she had found many a kindred spirit there.
Once inside she took the reception area and started the lengthy cleansing an old office which was clear enough, and in an hour she had managed to put up enough wards and guards to keep the room safe. She also tethered her energy here, so that the place was her space that she could focus in and meditate to keep herself focused. However by now it was getting dark and the place was locked up now, not realizing her presence there the caretaker had done his job and left for the night. Already it was getting unnaturally dark as there was no power, and in the dimming sun she could feel the place stirring with unrest as it rankled at room she had turned into a temporary sanctuary at a rather great cost to her current strength. She would spend most of the night resting and meditating to recover, also as a test to see if her work would hold or if she had pissed the spirits off too much and they would find holes in her work.
She had no idea she was not alone in here, and not the only one who could have predicted this possible tactic being used. However she was not yet ready to begin, the pieces of birch smoldered in a metal bin and slowly burned into charcoal, and in her meditation she was speaking in an archaic tongue casting the hours long spell to prepare it for it's use in the next stage of this. Though she could feel fluctuations in energy around her nothing major seemed to be happening, however it was evident that something was closing in on her location and it was pissed. However it was alone for now and yet so was she, so if it got through it would be a a fight of a different nature. Something she in her shadow form could actually deal with, as she had essentially converted her physical body into a form of unique spiritual matter.
