O'en Jestar Male, Twenty-Nine, Jedi | Play By:Matt Bomer Name: O'en Jestar Nicknames: None Age: 29 Sex: Male Species: Human Home World: Corellia Faction: Jedi Title: Master; Short Term High Council Knighthood: Consular Rank: Jedi General
Hair: Black, Short, Styled to the Right Eyes: Very Bright Blue Body Shape: Athletic Weight/Height: 187, 6'2'' Scars, Piercings, Tattoos: He has two scars on his back, one around the lower left back where a blaster shot hit him and another running diagonal down his right shoulder blade where a Yinchorii axe tried to split him into two. Clothing and Armor: O'en is a Jedi and has been one for most of his life, so his wardrobe mainly consists of Jedi robes. He does not really have a favorite kind of robes, in fact he often changes up colors and styles depending on the weather conditions and location. The more important armor he wears is his combat armor which is fashioned from a long brown and white robes with clone armor. This provides a durable shield against weaker blaster fire and some slashing damage. Weaponry: The only weapon O'en carries is his lightsaber, a blue bladed custom built saber with a durasteel hilt. The crystal is a Permafrost crystal which generates a constantly cold feeling, the lense is a pontite lens fashioned from a pontite crystal. The blade is extremely strong and even pulses slightly when activated thanks to it's enhanced focus.
Resources: O’en is a Jedi and as of such anything he needs is quite often suppled to him. He does not need for much, food, clothing, shelter is all mostly provided for him, and when it is not he is very capable of surviving off the land around him. He is assigned a personal Delta-7 Interceptor which he has a booster ring with it.
Appearance: To say that O’en hasn’t aged well would be a falsity, in fact the man had aged wonderfully. O’en is a well built man close to entering his thirties. He is covered from head to toe in muscles after a lifetime of intensive training. Along his back towards the left side there is a particularly nasty scar that has just recently been put there. There is another long scar on his right shoulder blade angling down towards his spine where a Yinchorii axe nearly separated him. Outside of that O’en has a very clean complexion that is to be admired.
His face is quite memorable, he has a very strong jawline with a split chin and deep blue eyes. O’en takes a lot of pride in his hair which he keeps somewhat short and styled to the right. The lack of age in his face is actually something to be noted, he is reaching his early thirties and he still has a fairly young look, even with the weather damage. He actually does not have completely perfect teeth, due to a Wampa fight he is missing the last molar in his jaw. Strengths: Focus: O'en has spent the majority of his life as a student, and he has enjoyed it handily. One of the traits that made him so good at being a student was his ability to focus on one task and complete it thoroughly. This applies to his use of the force as well, he is able to reach for it and hold it better than most Jedi due to his masters in depth training and his own personal advancement.
Jedi Training: The Jedi are an elite group of peace keepers or possibly better put an elite group of soldiers. O’en’s Jedi training has taught him to speak multiple languages, survive where few could, and maybe his favorite trait, it has taught him to solve conflict with his words rather than his physical training that also came with the training.
Battle Experience: O’en has been apart of many battles during his time, mainly thanks to wrong place wrong time. Because of this he has had the opportunity to pick the brains of many military geniuses and see many of them in action. This, combined with his participation in the battles, has given him quite the first hand knowledge of how to conduct a military project, even if it is not his first choice of assignment.
Learner:O’en was a book worm growing up and while it is not always books now he is still obsessed with furthering his knowledge. When he was still a youngling it was knowledge that helped him overcome his other weaknesses, due to that he values it in all aspects. He has devoted time to traveling just to learn other cultures view on the things he already feels he understands.
Master of Ataru: While Ataru is not the only form that O’en knows it is the form that his is best at, it is almost a contradiction to his very personality. He is calm and cool, however his style is erratic and reckless because of the situations he has been forced to draw his saber in. He also prefers this from due to it’s heavy reliance on the force as it is used, that is something that he excels at.
Weaknesses: Slow to Action: Much like the council that he questions O'en has learned to be slow to action. He does not particularly like taking a hands on approach to any situation and often will choose to wait until nearly to late before acting for good or bad. This is most notable in his hesitancy to draw his saber in any situation.
Questions the Council: Part of the Jedi’s strength is their unity, O’en does not completely fit into that. He may serve on the council but he is a voice that oft contradicts the other members, for instance he is not republic friendly. He does not believe the Jedi are meant to intervene in any event that does not put innocent lives in danger. For instance if two armies wish to face off he would rather let them have it out, but if a people were being enslaved he would push for swift action before innocent lives were lost. This does not mean he wont follow the councils wishes, it just means he is often trying to break the mold.
Limited Lightsaber Ability: While he is trained with a lightsaber he has not spent his time mastering all the forms available to him. O’en has focused mainly on Ataru and Soresu, the other forms he either has no knowledge of or very little. That being said he also relies very heavily on the force to keep up in lightsaber combat because he would rather fill his head with knowledge than his muscles with battle memories.
Unorthodox: O’en is considered very unorthodox and is treated in such a way. While he has a respected opinion many view him as too radical. O’en does not favor the Republic, in fact he finds it corrupt and dangerous. He serves the Jedi council and the people of the galaxy alone. Also his view of the force contradicts the way the Jedi commonly teach it, he gained his view fairly recently in his travels as he grew to understand it more.
Librarian: In theory O’en knows just about everything, he has been reading books his entire life habitually. He has delved into the knowledge left for him by the Jedi before him, this does create a slight problem though, he has spent so much time reading about it that he has not quite gotten around to doing a whole lot, in fact he has done very little. O’en would rather be in the library reading about an action than actually doing it. He often overestimates his own skill set because of this.
Goals: 1] To possess as much Knowledge as possible 2] To die peacefully 3] To help create a free galaxy
Fears: 1] Battle 2] His own shortcomings being used against him
Personality: There is a few main points to note when talking about O’en, all are however centered around the fact that he first and foremost is a Jedi devoted to helping the galaxy and the second that he is a firm believer of the Unifying Force theory.
As a Jedi O’en believes it is his job to protect the galaxy and steer it away from it’s own ends. He has seen battle and the damage it causes, the pain it causes, and he has come to hate it. It is partly the reason why he acts as slowly as he does, if he waits to see all the options maybe one without bloodshed will arise. He believes in protecting the weak without destroying the strong. He is also a very dedicated Jedi, he loves to pursue new questions and answers in a typical Jedi manner. He believes that his own knowledge and inner peace will help stabilize the peace of others.
O’en is a firm believer in the Unifying Force theory, this echoes throughout his entire way of life. He does not believe in a dark and light side of the force, only that there is the force and how people use it. He believes that his actions and the actions of the galaxy are guided by the force and are meant to bring perfect balance. Due to this he places utmost importance on visions and premonitions as he views them to be the window to the future. Because he sees the force in this way he is not as caught up in the Jedi’s view of light and dark, mostly because of the things he has seen the Jedi do while considering themselves still part of the light.
O’en himself is a happy person, he was given a life that gave him purpose and he is very grateful and loyal to the Jedi Order because of it. He is much like his master, who is also who O’en strives to be compared to. He pursues knowledge and respects it, he believes his mind is more important than his lightsaber, and he would rather see peace than battle, even if it meant proving himself to others. That being stated he will not allow innocents to be subjugated, his master taught him to defend the weak even at the expense of oneself, and O’en doesn’t like to disappoint. History:The Jestar family had, for a very long time, been one of the more wealthy on Corellia. Jerous Jestar was a thief, not just any thief but one of the most notorious in the entire galaxy, of course at the time of O’en’s birth that wasn’t known. Arin, his mother, was a very simple woman who chose to stay ignorant to her husbands illegal activities and moral looseness. Shortly after O’en’s birth his father decided to stop his illegal enterprise, having a son seemed to change him, however he planned and executed one last job.
Jerous had spent months planning and assembling his team, and when he was ready he struck at Nar Shaddaa from the shadows. Whenever the Hutt’s moved goods he had men there ready to take it over and swap it out with something useless. Because of his dozens of henchmen he found a way to avoid detection for nearly three months while he built a fortune stealing goods from Vorga the Hutt and then selling it back to him before he knew it had even gone missing. It was a thin line the man had chosen to walk but to him the fortune was worth it.
After about four months of the dangerous game he was playing with the Hutt he just disappeared. He moved his family to Coruscant and was determined to live there and raise his family. Jerous had always been a very cautious man, he didn’t leave a trail and no one could ever say that it was him who robbed them blind, he prided himself on his secrecy. The problem was that to pull his final heist and make a fortune that would keep him going for three lifetimes he had to break his own rules, never involve other people.
Two years removed from Corellia Jerous received a visit from a Rodian delivering a message from the Hutt’s, he had three days to return all the stolen goods or they were going to make an example out of him. The messenger came with a unique warning, a video of one of Jerous’ accomplices being skinned alive.
Jerous didn’t have the goods, he had already sold them, when he offered to pay the Hutt’s they refused. It became very clear very quickly that it was their intention to make an example out of him. So to save his family and his own life he turned to the republic and the Jedi. He made a deal with the Jedi, he would turn over himself and expose a Hutt presence on Coruscant, and for that the Jedi would change his wife and son’s identity and send them somewhere safe with his fortune.
When Jerous was taken into custody Arin was given an opportunity she could not pass up, her son had the potential to be a Jedi, to lead a safe, productive life. She allowed the Jedi to take him and she left back to Corellia with a new name and the same old fortune. It was the last time O’en would ever see his mother, but the memories of her and his father would never fade away.
O’en was not a particularly amazing Jedi youngling, in fact he was a slow learner and was very awkward for a long time. He ended up spending a lot of time in the libraries learning and putting his faith in books rather than his own skills. Over time he realized that he could learn from the holocrons and books that he spent so much time with.
He hadn’t excelled in any part of his training, the only thing he had managed to do while still a youngling was earn a rival, a Twi’lek Ribiald. Ribiald was a prodigy like individual, he was amazingly strong in the force, his saber ability was impressive, his only drawback was his arrogance and impatience. The two were pitted against one another in a spar, during the bout it was made clear that O'en was not in the same league as Ribiald, the Twi'lek was faster, stronger, and simply just more potent than O'en. O’en was weaker, slower, and his saber work was shoddy at best. The loss fueled O’en to excel outside of the library for the first time, he had never felt so embarrassed and it had awoken a drive in him that many thought hadn’t existed.
For the next two years O’en trained vigorously, the next time the two met was right before they were taken as padawan learners. The fight was very different than the first one, O’en was crisp, formed, and had a firm grasp on the defensive basics that he had previously seemed to be missing. Ribiald attacked relentlessly during the fight, the whole while wearing down eventually leading to O’en turning his iron defense into a quick striking offensive that ended Ribiald.
Master Eoth was a Zabrak Jedi known for his slow nature and his love of the temple’s libraries. He had taken notice of O’en a long time before his final spar with Ribiald, he had watched him be embarrassed and stand up honorably. He had watched him dig into knowledge passed down from past Jedi in holocrons and books, it had impressed him and he had decided long before the spar that he was going to be taking O’en as his apprentice. He had never said that to his padawan however, preferring to keep his ego down.
O’en began learning under Eoth, they were seemingly a perfect fit. Eoth was a quiet man who enjoyed meditation and the wild world. The two were rarely seen on Coruscant if not in the libraries. They traveled doing many diplomatic mission, and for the first three years of O’en’s training nothing out of the ordinary happened.
Eoth may have been a simple master but he was known to act for the weak, even against the council’s wishes. He would not resort to violence, but he would introduce Jedi influence even if the council was not always behind him. The first time O’en experienced this was while the two were training on a simple planet. During their training the Yam’rii attacked and enslaved the native populace.
Eoth acted with his young padawan, the two immediately demanded an audience with the large insects. Eoth demanded that they leave the world or learn to coexist, his speech was inspiring and brilliant, something that would inspire his young padawan for the rest of his life. Unfortunately the Yam’rii were not willing to coexist, the planet had only one resource, that resource was the native inhabitants.
For the next few months Eoth and O’en evaded the Yam’rii as they helped the natives escape to freedom. They called for help and were repeatedly asked to leave the situation alone. It was a dangerous three months, and probably the most notable in O’en’s life.
The two entered a town one evening being swarmed by the Yam’rii hordes. Eoth was forced to draw his blade in defense of the natives and O’en followed suit. The sight of the dead reptiles and the smell infuriated his master, O’en followed suit as the two battled the dozens of insects until they were finally surrounded and overrun. If not for a couner attack by the Kaleesh species Eoth and O’en would have been slaughtered, there was no doubt that they had picked a side at this pont.
During their time on Kalee Eoth took the time to teach O’en how to survive off the land, it was something Eoth had clearly done a lot, he was very thorough in his instructions. The two aided the Kaleesh for two years and fought in a number of battles. The two became like an extension of one another, Eoth trusted his padawan with his life and O’en learned the importance of having someone you can count on.
On a number of occasions the two would storm a Yam’rii encampment determined to free the slaves they had taken. The plan wold rarely ever turn out the way they wanted it to, the Yam’rii were always in greater number than they expected, or the slaves were not where they were meant to be. It was a rough existence for O’en, but his master never let him down.
Eventually the battles along side the Kaleesh came to an end, a general had taken over the fight and had turned the battle in their favor. O’en and Eoth were finally free to leave with confidence that there was no longer any need for them. O’en had grown quite a lot, he couldn’t even recognize himself in the mirror when he arrived back at the temple.
After his master was thoroughly scolded for his intervention in the Yam’rii uprising the two were once again back to the daily grind. Training and classes for O’en who had become quite the talented student and Eoth went back to studying and recording his own holocron. Their peaceful training didn’t last all that long, Dooku came calling for Jedi.
Eoth was taken away then and he was forced to leave his padawan behind, when he returned he was slightly different, obsessed with uncovering some mystery shrouding his last mission. Eoth and O’en didn’t undertake another mission for almost a year, then tragedy struck the order and they were called to service to stop the Yinchorii. It reminded O’en a lot of fighting the Yam’rii, every day they were forced to rely on one another for survival.
During the waning days of the crisis the Jedi encampment was attacked, O’en was struck a hard blow in the back. Eoth turned to engage the large beast that had struck his padawan and before the battle was over he had received a wound of his own. Four Jedi died that day, and Eoth was among them. When O’en came too of world and recovered he returned to the temple a different person.
O’en resigned from the order, he handed his lightsaber over and then disappeared from the temple. From there he returned home only to find that he didn’t know it, he continued to move. Before long he found himself with his own ship and traveling the galaxy.
He eventually found himself in a pirates trap, they took his ship and dropped him on an ice ball planet. He roamed the snow for a while, surviving the best he could. Even the force has an expiration date, and O’en found himself no longer capable of keeping himself warm. He passed out in the snow and ice, no longer afraid of death as he had been when he left.
The next thing he knew he was awake in a small hut, warm and clothed. The old man that had rescued him asked a favor in return for saving his life. O’en agreed out of some sense of good and then asked what he needed, the man responded with an outrageous task. He asked O’en to travel into a Wampa den and rescue captured children. O’en hadn’t been under the impression Wampa took living prey.
The old man continued explaining that the children had been playing in the Wampa cave thinking it abandon, then when the beast returned they hid, he was only vaguely certain they were even still alive. O’en accepted the mission, took a blaster and headed out into the ice. When he located the Wampa cavern he attempted to scope out a safe way in. At that moment he was welcomed by the large beast itself. It charged and O’en fought with it, the battle was not going in O’en’s favor until he had managed to get the Wampa under an ice ledge which he then brought down on top of it with the force.
After the Wampa was subdued he went in search of the children, he found them half frozen but still alive. Before he could leave the shattered cave he noticed something from the corner of his eye. It was shining under a thin layer of blue ice, as he approached he noticed the distinctive crystalic features. He shot the ice to melt it and then pulled the cold blue crystal from the ice, for some reason he could feel his entire body chill as he touched it.
He left with the children; getting them back home and realizing he was still the Jedi he had begun as. He didn’t know how to return to the order, instead he went about returning to his old routine, meditation, knowledge, and patience. He constructed a new lightsaber with the crystal he had found on Hoth, the blade was cold and it reminded him of that day lying there in the ice freezing.
Returning to the order was not nearly what O'en had expected. He had contemplated the possibility that they would toss him from the council room before he could even get a word off, instead they sat him down and questioned him for hours. As he sat and answered he became more and more aware that the masters had already known he would return, they were simply more interested in what it was that made him realize it. After they had helped him truly realize that being a Jedi was apart of him they sent him away, returning his rank, however as they attempted to return his saber he declined, instead focusing on his new blade.
After returning it was not long before he realized the order had no intention of assigning him a new master, instead the council clearly planned to push him too the trials. It was clear that the trials would test his resolve as a Jedi, it would push the limits that had him leave the order the first time. When he moved past his own emotion, moved past his own fears, he found that he had completed the trials and proven once and for all his loyalty.
Shortly after being knighted O’en was assigned a padawan who’s master had recently passed away. The council was insistent even against O’en’s wishes and objections. Her name was Aiena Memora, she was a prodigy if there ever was one. O’en immediately found it difficult to keep up with the teenage girl, and to make matters worse he found it hard to teach someone when he was only a few years older.
Over time O’en realized why they had chosen him to be her master, he was cool, calm, and slow to action, Aiena was not. His greatest task was getting the girl to see the broader scope of her powers, he had failed entirely until their mission to Balosar. On the mission the two were forced to capture a thieve, it was simple enough and yet O’en found his padawan disinterested. To prove a point he acted in much the same way that his master would have acted if it were him, he pretended that the mission took a turn for the worse and that he had been captured. It was then his student’s job to rescue him, all the while he made sure she would never get too close.
When she finally caught up to him she was relieved to learn that she had just been mislead. He made a point out of the fact that if it had been a real situation because of arrogance and ignorance he would have been dead long ago. After that she calmed down and took the lessons he taught quite a bit more seriously.
For the next few years O’en trained the girl until she was finally she was ready for the trials. She had grown a lot during their time together, O’en had managed to teach her to control her emotions, he had taught her the value of patience. When she was knighted he could only imagine how proud his own master would have been, to have guided a student as he did for O’en and then to watch them pass that wisdom on.
From there O’en led a very simple life of a Jedi scholar and diplomat. He spent his time researching the force, at one point even doing a tour of the outer rim to learn the secrets the species there had. He encountered many force groups over his two years of traveling, and then the force called him back to Coruscant. When he arrived Master Trebor, an old friend, recruited O’en to join the team headed to Antar-4.
On Antar-4 O’en once again found himself thrust into a battle he wanted no part of. All of the teaching, all of the studying, all of the peace he had tried to devote himself to in the memory of his master was for naught. When the battle ended he once again found himself questioning the Jedi. When he brought the questions to the council they met him with appreciation and concern. After a few weeks of meditation on the issue he once again found himself in the council’s chambers to assure them of his loyalty.
The council did not meet him with resistance as it had done when he returned from the Yinchorii crisis, instead they welcomed his insight. They made O’en a master, and with that honor he devoted himself once again to his studies of the Jedi text, determined to find the answers of the future in the past.
During the battle of Geonosis O’en fought valiantly and received a blaster wound to the left side. After the fight he devoted himself to his training once more realizing another war was on it’s way.
