The name 'Sith' derives from an ancient species of Dark side Force users from the planet of Korriban. Between the species that originated there, and the Dark Jedi outcasts that were left there, the group formally known as the 'Sith' came into existence; an ancient religion not unlike the Jedi, but straying from the beliefs of the Jedi on many key points. In essence, the two were similar opposites; life and death, justice and chaos, with one always associated with the other. Many reasons lead to the Sith and the Jedi become sworn enemies. Their views differed upon how to use the Force, as did the very basics of their morality. The two had bad blood based upon many events that transpired in the early days of the galaxy. Constant confrontations sealed the deal, almost as if the two were simply fated to duel endlessly until a victory was official.
The Sith of the current time have come very far from their roots. They are much wiser, much more powerful than those that they rose from. They seek now the power to control the galaxy, or as much of it as possible. They also seek the destruction of the Jedi, revenge over the ancient feud that has existed between them for so long.
