Many wonder just why it is that the Confederacy formed, and chose to fight the Galactic Republic. Was it for power? Wealth? Justice? Well that really depends on who you ask.
The Confederacy began with Count Dooku, who saw too much corruption within the Republic and its Senate, as well as too many restrictions and problems within the Jedi Order, and their affiliation with the Republic. He began to travel, stirring up anti-Republic sentiment in his wake, and eventually amassed around him the makings of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
To him, this is about fixing a corrupt and stale government and rebuilding from the ground up.
To those beneath him, the desire often gets darker.
Some desire a certain amount of justice against a system that has long neglected them, and those around them. These would be those of the Outer Rim, or the Expansion Rim, who've had their pleas and requests denied, and their voting power deemed less than others.
Others are in this for the wealth and power. After all, many of the higher ranking individuals within the Confederacy command armies many times larger than the entire Republic Army. This gives them great authority, and, should they so wish, the power to take many systems hostage. Many followers came to Dooku, and the Confederacy, in the name of selfish betterment and power.
Whatever the cause, the Confederacy cannot be deemed the 'evil' side in the conflict; there was good and bad on each side.
